Overview
Shimizu Octo is Japan's largest company in stage-related services. For the construction of basic stages at outdoor venues and large-scale facilities, including Nippon Budokan and Tokyo Dome, it uses a patented temporary installation known as SSR. The company also owns Chiba Studio and Shinkiba Studio, and handles numerous events and concerts.
In facility management, it manages dome stadiums in general, including Tokyo Dome and Sapporo Dome; baseball stadiums including Yokohama Stadium and Chiba Marine Stadium; and facilities including the National Stadium, Ariake Coliseum, Tokyo Stadium, and Chiba City Soga Football Stadium. On September 1, 2005, Fukuda Denshi Arena was designated by Chiba City as Japan's first designated administrator, under the Shimizu Octo–Toyo Maintenance Soga Football Stadium Joint Venture.
In operations and security, the company specializes in sports and live entertainment events, including those at Tokyo Dome, as well as major parades. In addition to carrying out such events, it undertakes planning and production as a consultant in security-related matters.
Originally, the company was divided into Shimizu Butai Kogei Co., Ltd. (シミズ舞台工芸), a stage and television art production company, and Shimizu Sports Co., Ltd. (シミズスポーツ), which handled facility management, security, and event operations management. In connection with facility management and security for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the two companies merged on August 1, 2001 for various reasons, resulting in the present company.
