Overview
JAM Project was formed in response to Ichirō Mizuki's call to “preserve the good old ‘anime song spirit’ for the 21st century.” Behind its formation was a sense of doubt regarding the trend at the time of its establishment of using tie-in songs by popular artists for anime and game theme songs that were generally unsuitable for the content of the works, although all anime and game songs are tie-ins between works and artists.
Its official name is Japan Animationsong Makers Project (ジャパン・アニメーションソング・メイカーズ・プロジェクト).
Its sound has been strongly influenced by the presence among its early members of Eizo Sakamoto, who had been active in ANTHEM and Animetal, as well as by Kageyama of Lazy, a band that also had a period of pursuing a hard-rock-oriented style. Many of its songs are therefore quite close to Japanese heavy metal and hard rock. Its live performances are also high-energy and resemble the intensity of heavy metal concerts. Among those with experience as backing-band members are many figures connected to hard rock and heavy metal, including Yogo Kono, Munetaka Higuchi, Soul Tohru, Atsushi Yokozeki, Koichi Terasawa, Hiroya Fukuda, Nuno Bettencourt, and Akira Takasaki.
Its producer is Shunji Inoue, the representative of Lantis and keyboardist of Lazy.
More recently, it has been active not only in Japan but internationally as well, undertaking world tours and holding joint live performances with Animetal USA.
