Overview
Lantis was founded by former employees of Airs, a subsidiary of Bandai Music Entertainment (formerly Apollon Music Industrial; hereafter BME), which had been established through equal investment by BME and Amuse. BME was liquidated in 2000 due to poor business performance, after which Airs became solely funded by Amuse. Lantis primarily produces music related to anime and video games, as well as related live performance videos, and has also participated in numerous production committees for animated video works.
From its establishment until its dissolution, the company was led without a change of president by Shunji Inoue, the keyboardist of LAZY and a music producer. After serving as vice president of the merged Bandai Namco Arts, he stepped down effective April 1, 2021.
The name “Lantis” was derived from “Atlantis” by Kia Asamiya. In 1994, before the establishment of Lantis, Inoue, then a producer and director at Sixty Music Network, created the “Lantis” label when releasing albums for the Silent Mobius series, based on Asamiya's original work. This label differs from the present-day “Lantis” in both trademark and font.

History
Lantis Co., Ltd. was established on November 26, 1999. It initially had four employees and began operations from a room in an apartment building in Ebisu.
In 2003, it absorbed and merged with Artbank.
In 2004, it established On the Run, and Lantis Web Radio began.
In 2006, it entered into a business alliance with Bandai Visual concerning online distribution, promotion, and other activities, becoming a consolidated subsidiary in which Bandai Visual held a 50.6% stake on May 1. On August 31, it absorbed and merged with On the Run, and Mellow Head became a label within Lantis.
In 2009, on February 25, it announced the establishment of the GloryHeaven label. Sales and distribution were entrusted to Sony Music Marketing, formerly Sony Music Distribution. On March 1, it received the transfer of Emotion's music business and began centralized management of music masters held by the Bandai Namco Group. From shipments made on April 3, sales and distribution of releases on the Lantis label were transferred to Bandai Visual. On April 7, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Lantis's establishment, it began broadcasting the music information program Run Run LAN! for six months under sole sponsorship, on independent UHF stations including TV Saitama. On April 24, it established Kiramune, a joint label with Bandai Visual. On September 26 and 27, it held the 10th-anniversary concert Lantis Festival, featuring its affiliated artists, at Fuji-Q Highland.
In 2011, on August 1, its music production department became independent and established I Will. On September 30, the Mellow Head label was discontinued, and its affiliated artists transferred to Lantis or GloryHeaven.
On April 1, 2013, Bandai Visual acquired additional shares, making Lantis its wholly owned subsidiary.
From July 19, 2014 to April 19, 2015, in commemoration of its 15th anniversary, it held the commemorative concert Lantis Festival 2014, featuring its affiliated artists, with nine performances at four locations in Japan, and the ANISONG WORLD TOUR 2015 Lantis Festival, with 11 performances at six overseas locations.

On April 1, 2018, it merged with Bandai Visual, forming Bandai Namco Arts. Bandai Visual was the surviving company, and Lantis was dissolved. The name “Lantis” continued after the merger as the name of the music division's label, and its symbol logo also continued to be used.
On April 1, 2022, the music business division of Bandai Namco Arts, Bandai Namco Live Creative, and Sunrise Music merged and integrated to form Bandai Namco Music Live.
