Overview

Studio Coast opened on December 31, 2002. Its operating company, Mother Entertainment, planned and operated the club event ageHa (アゲハ). The venue was also rented out as a hall for other live performances and events.

It was the only venue in Japan equipped with four-way full-range amplified speakers known as Octagon Speakers.

The signboard at the front of the building displayed the names of artists performing that day and the names of events, becoming one of the venue’s distinctive features.

Following the closure of Differ Ariake, the mixed martial arts organization Pancrase announced that it would use the venue as its home from February 2018.

In 2020, business conditions worsened due to the spread of COVID-19, and the venue announced crowdfunding campaigns and the launch of an equipment-rental business. It also sold naming rights to USEN Corporation and was renamed “USEN STUDIO COAST” on January 13, 2021. However, negotiations to renew its fixed-term land lease agreement were unsuccessful, and the venue was scheduled to close on January 30, 2022 upon the expiration of the contract.

Demolition work began on February 1, 2022, and the land was returned to its owner as a vacant lot. Limited-edition plates, made primarily from the ARENA floor bearing marks from 20 years of events, were produced from debris generated during the demolition work and sold in limited quantities.

Upon the closure of STUDIO COAST, a crowdfunding campaign was also conducted to produce and release a documentary film covering behind-the-scenes aspects of the facility’s operation.
