Dhurha Vs Dhurha (ヅラ対ヅラ) is Maximum the Hormone's first video release in six years, since Deka Vs Deka in 2015, issued by Warner Music Japan on January 12, 2022 as a two-disc set, a Blu-ray and a DVD, of about 380 minutes. The whole release is built on one word. The band writes a face as 面 and reads it zura, which it romanises DHURHA, and the initials of Dhurha Vs Dhurha spell DVD, so the Blu-ray's own label announces that "this disc is a Blu-ray Disc by the name of DVD".

Disc 1: The Live, the Live Document and Two Videos
The Blu-ray, about 193 minutes, opens with "Dhurha Dhurha Dhurha ~Fumetsu no Face~" (全席・顔面指定席ライブ「面面面~フメツノフェイス~」), a live at which every seat was assigned by face. Fans applied under one of the face categories the band had defined, among them the heavy-featured "Kotteri" group, the boardroom-faced "upper management", the "maidens" and the "full-on mums", and only the faces chosen got in; each category had its own permitted moves, the "emote skills". It played three nights in April 2021, at Zepp Nagoya on the 12th, Zepp Osaka Bayside on the 14th and KT Zepp Yokohama on the 19th, after its December 2020 dates were postponed, and the film is Maximum the Ryo-kun's edit of the best of all three. It was streamed on June 25, 2021 with the members appearing live beside it. Seventeen songs are here, encore included, every one in full; two of them, "Zetsubō Billy" and "G'old~en~Guy", were held back from that stream. The live carries English, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles.
The second part is the live document TOKYO NEO SOCIAL DISTANCE ~Shiofuki~ (個室・対面独占ライブドキュメント「TOKYO NEO SOCIAL DISTANCE~潮吹~」), "private room, face to face, exclusive". It was filmed on June 13, 2021 at the rehearsal studio in Hachiōji that the band always uses, at the fan event 「私をイかせて♡ホルモン」, where the band played to one small group of fans at a time and each group chose its songs from a menu. Its twelve songs include "Tatari-kun" in five versions, named for Maximum the Ryo-kun, Daisuke-han, Ue-chan, Nao and the Harapeko (the band's name for its fans), and "R.H.C.P. ga Boku o Sarai ni Yattekita" in four. The disc ends with two music videos, "(Yondome no!) WxHxUx ~Washi kate Honma wa Uretai n Jai~" and "Reiwa Strawberry Vibe". The second was that song's first video, and the band put it up in full on its YouTube channel on November 30, 2021, ahead of the release.
Disc 2: The DVD
The DVD, about 187 minutes, gathers the band's video projects of the same years. It opens with 俺ならこう歌うをホルモンがそう歌う!! ("the Hormone sing it the way they'd sing it"), whose credits thank ten guests, among them Kazutoshi Sakurai of Mr.Children, TERU of GLAY, Tamio Okuda and Funky Kato. Next come the three other members, shown the finished live film for the first time. A second 俺ならこう歌う!!, the Kyoto Daisakusen special, brings in 渋谷龍太 of SUPER BEAVER, Takuya Yamanaka of THE ORAL CIGARETTES and TAKUMA of 10-FEET, on footage from the festival, and Yusuke Chiba sings "Tatari-kun" in a film of his own. Then come the grand prize of the Harapeko Awards, a stay at Daisuke-han's family home for two women in their twenties; the band's secret off-shot footage, a long reel and seven short clips; ブラフトシ, a local tour round Tochigi; and ペコえこナビ, a map of the twelve shops in the band's Harapeko Ekohiiki coupon scheme with a short film of each, produced by the office that runs them. The shops, the map says, are why the set could be sold as cheaply as it is.
FUTOSHIスケイプ and 亮君メーカー are games, played through the disc's own menus: the first a run of escape puzzles to rescue Ue-chan, the second a dress-up game. The main menu, made up as a parody video app on a phone, keeps the two "Tatari-kun" guest videos locked until the games are won. The Kyoto Daisakusen special costs five coins, earned by clearing 亮君メーカー, and Yusuke Chiba's film ten gems, earned by clearing FUTOSHIスケイプ.
The last thing on the back panel, printed only as "+???", is a hidden menu with four more videos. Shutoku Mukai plays "Tatari-kun" on guitar. Ryo-kun is heard being lectured by his wife the morning after a night out drinking in Hachiōji in 2018, a recording he made in secret and which is on the disc, the menu notes, with her special permission. 「俺ならこうREMIX!!」 was made for the band by DJ DANGER×DEER of コロナナモレモモ, the band's "second branch", from a new "Nechori Napolitan!!" that Ryo-kun recorded in answer to the cry for one at the end of the DVD's first video. And "Koi no Mega Lover" is played with Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra at their TOKYO SKA Treasure Hunt show at Zepp Osaka Bayside on October 17, 2021, where the Hormone were the guests, in footage the band's own staff shot for its archive.
Packaging
The set comes in a pink box drawn by Carpet.: masked fans and the band's characters crowd round a giant DVD logo, and the keepcase inlay repeats the drawing in pink on black. The back lists four bonuses, the first only as a question mark, "a treat for after you open it". It is a sleeve case of its own, made up as a 1980s rental-video box for a science-fiction film, Dhurha Vs Dhurha: The One Who Guards the Star (星を守る者), painted by Ryohei Miyaji. Its back carries the film's synopsis, credited for screenplay and direction to Maximum the Ryo-kun: the pandemic of 2020, masked faces lined up in the live houses, "today is Zura Year One". The box is marked NOT FOR SALE at "market price". The other bonuses were a ticket to the band's online shop's Platinum VIP Lounge, valid to February 14, 2022; two Harapeko Ekohiiki coupons; and, printed on the inner sleeve, a QR code to an advance view of the web manga 「さようなら亮君。」 ("Goodbye, Ryo-kun"), which the back says "all connects from the shocking ending" of the live. The box's other edge carries an endorsement from the screenwriter and director Kankurō Kudō: "a good band's good show is where all the good zura gather".
The fold-out inner sleeve credits the package, the menus, the videos and each of the DVD's pieces. Maximum the Ryo-kun is credited as executive producer of the whole and as the package's "total creative brain"; the two music videos were directed by Takasuke Kato of THINGS. and Masaki Sato. The Blu-ray is dual-layer, 1080p, with linear PCM stereo; the DVD is single-sided and dual-layer, NTSC, 16:9 letterboxed, with Dolby Digital stereo, and is marked for all regions.
