Overview
The Memory-Tech Group is a corporate group that operates a wide range of entertainment-related businesses, primarily in animation, including CoMix Wave and Graphinica.
Its consolidated subsidiary, Memory-Tech, is Japan's largest CD manufacturer. It has been actively planning and developing original products, particularly in the field of high-quality audio CDs, including UHQCDs and the high-end glass product Crystal Disc. In addition to its original package media manufacturing business, it has expanded into the duplication of semiconductor memory, the filling, assembly, and packaging of cosmetics and quasi-drugs, the manufacture and sale of content management systems, logistics, and warehousing.
It formerly owned Wonder Station, a franchise studio established by composer Joe Hisaishi, and also made orchestral recordings.
In the video field, during the next-generation DVD format war of the mid-2000s, it served as an organizer of the HD DVD camp alongside Toshiba, NEC, and Sanyo Electric. After HD DVD lost the format war against Blu-ray Disc, it joined the Blu-ray Disc Association. In November 2015, it began manufacturing the next-generation Blu-ray Disc format, UHD BD. As of 2016, only four companies worldwide were capable of manufacturing all UHD BD types, including triple-layer 100 GB discs.
Its facilities include its head office in Tokyo, which primarily handles sales and head-office functions, and the Gotemba Plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, which conducts mass production and logistics for optical discs and assembles cosmetics and quasi-drugs.
In December 2010, it transitioned to a holding company structure, changed its corporate name to Memory-Tech Holdings Inc., and transferred its package media-related business to the newly established subsidiary Memory-Tech Inc.
In 2017, it obtained a cosmetics manufacturing license at its Gotemba Plant in Shizuoka Prefecture and began refilling and packaging cosmetics and quasi-drugs as a new business.
