The Concert
Thirteen songs, about 89 minutes, directed by Steve Graham and edited by Dan Nelson, with the concert audio and its 5.1 mix by Dan Turner. The show is built in three parts, and each opens with a taped interlude whose name the case prints in italics above its songs. "Satyriasis" opens the first nine, from "Gilded Cunt" to "The Forest Whispers My Name". "A Bruise Upon the Silent Moon" opens "The Promise of Fever", "13 Autumns and a Widow" and "Mother of Abominations". "Painting Flowers White Never Suited My Palette" leads into the closer, "From the Cradle to Enslave". The back of the case censors the opening song as "Gilded C*nt"; the booklet prints it in full. Every song is the band's own. The stage show is a theatrical one, with costumed performers alongside the players.
The Extras
The disc files its extras under two headings. Reinforcements holds two films. Postcards From Vulgaria - A Shockumentary is about an hour of footage from the band's previous three years, with interviews and life on the road, directed and edited by Dani Filth and Paul Allender. Virgin on the Stupid, directed by Alex Chandon and edited by Filth and Allender, follows a signing session at a Virgin Megastore.
Extra Rounds: Video Propaganda collects six music videos:
- "Her Ghost in the Fog", directed by Alex Chandon (2000).
- "No Time to Cry", also directed by Chandon (2002). It is the band's cover of the Sisters of
Mercy song, music by Marx, Adams and Hussey and lyrics by Eldritch, and it is licensed from Snapper Music.
- "Babalon A.D.", directed by Wiz (2003).
- "Mannequin", directed by Thomas Mignone (2003).
- "The Promise of Fever", directed by Paul Allender (2003).
- "Nymphetamine", directed by Dani Jacobs. On it Liv Kristine sings as the guest vocalist.
"Babalon A.D.", "Mannequin", "The Promise of Fever" and "Her Ghost in the Fog" are licensed from Sony BMG Music Entertainment (UK). A DVD@ccess link on the disc opens the band's website.
The Package and the Booklet
The illustration and design are John Coulthart's. The case front sets the gold CRADLE OF FILTH logotype and the two-line title over his winged-demon painting. The back panel carries three pull quotes:
- Dom Lawson of Kerrang!: "the single most important metal band since the glory days of Maiden
and Priest".
- Bam Margera.
- The Lord Provost of Glasgow: "Sick and offensive".
Below the quotes, a blurb promises "the freaks and grotesques and the foul deeds they purport to undertake". The disc label prints no title, only the logos and the catalogue number, with the legal text running round its rim.
The six-page booklet opens on its back cover with a passage from H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu. Page 1 prints the contents, with the director of each extra and the publishing and licensing notes, and page 2 the production credits, set among stills from the show. Pages 3 to 6 are Dom Lawson's essay "Cradle of Filth: A Monstrous Tribute", dated August 2005. It opens on the Baragoon, a monster from a book he pored over as a child, which he likens to the band. He calls the disc the second in their "heroically ambitious canon of DVDs" and marks the band's line-up changes: keyboardist Martin Foul's departure, and bassist Dave Pybus's break at the beginning of 2005 and his return.
