Leo Hao was born Aleksei Mikhailovich Shamrovskii on March 1, 1973 in Moscow, Moscow Oblast, Russia.
Around 1990, while moving between jobs, he studied art independently and sought work in the arts under the pen name “Leo Hao”.
In 2001, works he created for books published by the major local publisher Eksmo were nominated for Russian art awards, and his album cover art for Aria, a Russian HR/HM band, was well received, increasing his prominence.
Thereafter, as one of Russia’s leading art designers, he expanded beyond book and album covers into artwork for video games and photographs. He also broadened his activities with attention to welfare, including devising book covers designed for visually impaired people.
