Company Overview
The company develops, procures, and wholesales accessories for Yamaha-brand wind, string, percussion, and keyboard instruments, as well as educational instruments and AV equipment; it also imports and wholesales instruments from globally renowned brands. It operates directly managed Yamaha Music stores in various locations.
In its AV equipment business, centered on pure audio, it is also known as one of the few Japanese audio manufacturers to have survived the rise of digital audio and the decline of pure audio (Hi-Fi audio), alongside Denon (D&M Holdings [Denon Consumer Marketing], formerly Nippon Columbia), Marantz CMC (D&M Holdings, formerly Nippon Marantz), TEAC, Luxman, and Accuphase.
In April 2013, Yamaha Music Trading Co., Ltd. merged with Yamaha Electronics Marketing Co., Ltd. and Yamaha Music Lease Co., Ltd., with Yamaha Music Trading Co., Ltd. as the surviving company, and changed its name to the present Yamaha Music Japan Co., Ltd.
In April 2024, it absorbed and merged Yamaha Music Retailing Co., Ltd., which had operated directly managed Yamaha stores. In August of the same year, it relocated its headquarters from Takanawa, Minato, Tokyo, to the Yokohama Symphostage West Tower in Minato Mirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama. The building’s lower floors, from the first to the third floor, also house the experiential brand shop Yamaha Music Yokohama Minato Mirai (ヤマハミュージック 横浜みなとみらい) and the Music Avenue Yokohama Minato Mirai music school (ミュージックアベニュー横浜みなとみらい).
